Privacy

If you just visit

You don't need an account to read this site. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. Cloudflare runs the site and handles the technical information every website receives, such as your IP address. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and measure page speed. Cloudflare says it doesn't use cookies or fingerprinting.

When you reach a video, YouTube's player loads and YouTube may collect information under its own policies. People who ask their device for less motion get a link to YouTube instead.

If you log in with Discord

We receive your Discord ID and username, and not your Discord email or messages. We set one cookie to keep you logged in, which lasts up to 12 hours.

If you apply to be a tour guide

Shown on your profile once approved: your in-game or channel name, devices, region, country, languages, categories, bio, and any video, stream, YouTube and Discord links you give us.

Kept private: your email, Discord ID and username, hours played, and when you ticked the confirmation boxes.

If you send feedback or a report

We keep what you write, your Discord ID and username, and the time. Feedback goes to the guide with your name hidden, and only JJ can see who sent it. Safety reports go only to our team.

Who can see private information

Only JJ and the small number of trusted Wardens who help vet guides. We use these services to run the site, and they may handle your information outside New Zealand:

• Cloudflare, for hosting, our database, bot protection and admin security.
• Discord, for login and for the Tau Ceti Tours server.
• YouTube, for videos.
• Brevo, for sending email, once connected.

AI

Public profiles can be read by search engines and AI tools. We may also use AI tools to help run this site, and we can't guarantee that what you submit will never be seen by an AI.

How long we keep it

• Profiles you hid yourself: deleted after 31 days.
• Rejected applications: deleted after 90 days, when you can apply again. We keep only your Discord ID and the rejection date for 1 year, so we can review a new application more closely.
• Feedback and safety reports: deleted after 1 year.
• Banned guides: the profile is deleted, but we keep the Discord ID and ban date so that account can't reapply.
• Logins: removed once they expire.

Live guide profiles stay until the guide hides them, asks us to delete them, or we remove them.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. In some cases we may need to keep something, such as a ban record or a safety report. If you aren't happy with our answer, you can complain to New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner. People in the EU and UK also have rights under their own data protection laws.

Age

Tour guides must be 18 or older, and everyone else taking part must be 16 or older.
